The purpose of the Craft Recognition Program is to recognize one individual per quarter who demonstrates outstanding service and excellence within the Maintenance Department.  Nominations are accepted from co-workers, staff members and from individual schools.  A selection committee evaluates the various nominations and selects one individual to receive the award.

Welcome the Knox County Schools Maintenance & Operations Department (KCSMO). KCSMO oversees the cleaning and maintenance of 88 schools, including 50 elementary schools, 14 middle schools, 12 high schools, two vocational centers, four special education centers, and two early childhood development centers.  Some of these sit/modules/groups/group_pages.phtml?gid=507154&nid=115975es may have more than one building. These sites range in age from brand new to nearly 100 years old. Together these sites have over 8,975,489 square feet of roofed space. These sites encompass approximately 1,500 acres of property that must be maintained.

The major functional areas that are the responsibility of KCSMO include:

  • Cleaning of buildings
  • Crafts: Asbestos, Cabinet Makers, Carpentry, Electrical, HVAC, Grounds, Locksmith, Masons, Painters, Plumbers, Networking Team, Support Services team, Surplus/Movers/Drivers, Glaziers
  • Elevator Services
  • Energy Management
  • Environmental Services (air quality, asbestos, pest control)
  • Fire Suppression Equipment
  • FFE
  • Grounds Upkeep
  • Maintaining equipment and facilities
  • Maintenance of our equipment and facilities
  • Maintenance of our vehicles
  • Moving Services
  • Painting Services
  • Roofing Services
  • Security Monitoring Systems
  • Surplus Management
  • Utilities
  • Waste Disposal

The KCS Maintenance & Operations Department strives to perform these diverse tasks in an efficient, timely and cost effective manner. Our mission is to provide prompt, efficient and courteous service to you. Additionally, we constantly strive to improve our service to you.
